Introduction

Values in Action (VIA) is one of the platforms that provides learning experiences to enhance students’ development as socially responsible citizens through ownership of their contribution to the community.

Students exercise social responsibility in their spheres of influence and play their part through meaningful contribution to the community, through the learning and application of values, knowledge and skills. With active involvement in learning about and appreciating the community, it develops a sense of commitment in students to play their part to make the place a better one for everyone. There are also opportunities given to students to choose and have a voice in what they believe will make a difference in the community with the differentiated VIA programmes provided for the various levels.

Through reflection, a key component of VIA, students reflect on their experiences, internalising the values they have put into practice, and examine how they can continue to contribute meaningfully. When students apply what they have learnt, they make responsible choices and become informed and concerned citizens of good character.

Approach

Head: Skills & knowledge Acquisition
(Acquire skills and knowledge to overcome challenges and reflect on their experiences.)

Heart: Empathy Building
(Appreciate and understand the need to contribute to society)

Hands: Act of giving
(The act of giving back to society)

Values In Actions (VIA) Learning Experiences

Our VIA programmes focus on 3 board areas, Environment, Fundraising and Outreach. The VIA programmes planned are differentiated and developmental in nature. Students will get to experience being involved in community service in stages throughout their primary school years, according to the objectives that have been spelt out for the different levels.
